Birmingham City suffer fresh injury fear ahead of Luton Town clash

Birmingham City have doubts over three front line players for this weekend’s match with Luton Town.

Blues’ issues at the back are well-publicised with concerns over the fitness of Teden Mengi and Marc Roberts – both of whom are struggling with hamstring issues.

But there is now a question mark over Scott Hogan’s participation against the Hatters after the 29-year-old was taken off against Bournemouth.

Blues are keeping tight-lipped about the nature of Hogan’s potential injury but the issue is just the latest to beset Lee Bowyer.

The head coach revealed after the loss to Bournemouth on Wednesday night that Roberts had complained of tightness following training on Monday. He missed the 3-1 reverse but has not yet been officially ruled out.

It is his second hamstring issue of the season, with the first just before Christmas costing him nearly a month – albeit only two games as Blues lost festive fixtures to Covid.

To make matters worse Mengi needed treatment after stretching at the Vitality Stadium and was withdrawn in the 63rd minute.

The Manchester United loan player had featured in every game since joining arriving at the club.

Blues finished their midweek game with two full backs, Maxime Colin and Kristian Pedersen, at the heart of the defence and two midfielders, Gary Gardner and Jeremie Bela in the back four.

If Hogan is not available he could be replaced up front by Lukas Jutkiewicz, who would partner Lyle Taylor just as he did at the end of Wednesday’s match.

Blues are already without George Friend, Taylor Richards, Troy Deeney and Tahith Chong, they have though, invited ex-Derby defender Andre Wisdom to train with them.
