Lee Bowyer drops transfer hint over Nottingham Forest loanee after Birmingham City heroics

Lee Bowyer has praised Birmingham City match-winner Lyle Taylor and hinted the Nottingham Forest player would like to stay at Blues. Speaking after Taylor’s penalty settled a scrappy local derby the Blues head coach suggested the striker is still effective even though he is in his 30s.

Taylor celebrated his 32nd birthday a few days ago but marked his return to the team after two games out with injury, with a good performance and a nerveless spot kick which proved the only goal of the game.

Asked about the possibility of retain the loan player at the end of the season, Bowyer wouldn’t be drawn, other than to express his admiration for a player he also managed at Charlton. “He has got good mobility, he does everything that I want from a striker,” Bowyer said.

“He holds the ball up, he works hard in and out of possession, scores goal and creates chances. We will have to see in the summer and see what happens between now and the end of the season. If you ask me if I like Lyle as a player, I had to fight hard to bring him here and I am glad he is here.

“I don’t know, this is a question for Craig [Gardner] and the board. We will see what the situation is come the summer but for as long as we have him here, we have to enjoy him. I am and I know he is enjoying being here. Hopefully, he keeps scoring goals and helping us win games.”

Taylor’s penalty was delivered after a trademark slow run-up in which he seemed to wait for ‘keeper Sam Johnstone to commit himself before calmly slipping the ball into the opposite corner.
