Two former city attorneys filed a lawsuit against the NFL Monday, alleging that the league violated its own policy when approving the Chargers' move from San Diego to Los Angeles in 2017, according to a report.

Former San Diego City Attorney Michael Aguirre and former Chief Deputy City Attorney Maria Severson filed the lawsuit on behalf of San Diego taxpayer and business owner Ruth Henricks this week, accusing the NFL and Chargers officials of "failing to negotiate in good faith" to keep the team in San Diego, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

According to the report, despite multiple efforts made by city officials throughout the years to keep the team in San Diego, Chargers owner Dean Spanos had decided as early as 2006 that the team should move to Los Angeles, the lawsuit claims.

"The Chargers’ statements suggesting the Chargers … [were] looking for a way to stay in San Diego in and after 2006 were false," Severson wrote in the complaint. "Chargers Football owner Dean Spanos had already made up his mind to move the team to Los Angeles, according to the former Chargers Football’s chief operating officer."
