Law and District Athletics Club claim medals at Cross Country Championships

Law and District Amateur Athletics Club members took home medals from the Inter District Cross Country Championships in Irvine earlier this month.

Seven young athletes were selected for the event after competing in a series of cross country races earlier in the season.

U13 John Frood, U15 Jessica Inglis, U15 Ryan Kellock, U17 Fiona Currie, U17 Oscar Logan and Senior Maddy Watson were all selected to represent West of Scotland, while U23 Emily McNicol was selected to represent Scottish Students.

The event took place on Saturday, January 15 at Beach Park Irvine, where all athletes competed over the hills and sand dunes on the coast.

The first race of the day saw U13 John Frood excel over 3km finishing in an impressive 13th place and winning a silver team medal.

U15 Jessica Inglis was next to compete and had a superb run over 4km to finish in fifth place, winning team gold.

Fellow U15 Ryan Kellock continued the good form to finish in 12th place over 4km, winning a silver team medal.

U17 Fiona Currie and U17 Oscar Logan both performed well over 6km, finishing in 30th and 23rd place respectively.

U23 Emily McNicol and Senior Maddy Watson completed the day with fine runs in the 7km, finishing 26th and 38th respectively.

Maddy Watson then went on to compete in the Feel the Burns hill race at Selkirk on Sunday, January 16.

She completed the gruelling 13.7mile course, with an 800m ascent, in an impressive time of 1:53.44hrs, finishing second lady and 54th overall in a field of 253 runners.

Meanwhile, Rich and Jen Beattie took part in the Falkirk 10k by Tough Runner on the same day, finishing in 29th and 153rd place respectively.
