Law and District AAC take medals haul from major championships

Law and District stars Owen Murphy and Tehillah Ikechukwu-Okonkwo broke club and events records as they cruised to gold medal glory at the West District Championships and National Outdoor Open recently.

On a sunny weekend at the Ayrshire Athletic Arena in Kilmarnock, there were four championship best performances between the under-17 athletes in both the 100m and 200m sprints.

Owen won championship titles in 10.95s and 22.37s, respectively, with Tehillah winning the 100m in 11.88s, beating a record that had been held since 1981, and silver in the 200m in 24.47s. All four performances were also new club records so big congratulations also go to their coaches Tom McTaggart and Sean Murphy.

These performances were part of a terrific showing from the club all round.

There was a strong turn out from Law’s sprints squads on day one, with fellow U17 Rachel Williamson making the 100m final with a time of 13.70, India Wood also competing with a time of 14.50 and Jak Weir making the final and coming away with a new personal best of 11.76. Under 15 Luke Evans won bronze with 12.43, with Stefan Cowan running well for 13.15 in the final.

Law had two under 15 girls competing with Cara Murphy recording 14.28 and Olivia Davidson recording 14.66.

U13 Chloe Gardiner worked hard to reach the final, coming through the heats and semi finals to finish 5th with 14.30 in a very close final. Fellow U13s Harrison Hamilton and Alfie Brown both made the final of the boys’ race.

Three U17 women were competing over 300m with multi-eventer Sky Davidson recording a time of 45.25, just missing out on the final. In the final, Lauren McNair and Erin McGurk recorded times of 42.47 and 42.65, just missing out on the medals.
