Lavin & Barr shine at World Continental Tour Gold Meet

Sarah Lavin earned a morale-boosting victory in the women's 100m hurdles at the World Continental Tour Gold Meet in Poland on Friday.

Two weeks ago Lavin finished seventh in the 100m hurdles final at the European Championships. Afterwards, in a very honest assessment, she told RTÉ Sport: "I know I'm so much better and that's what's killing me."

It was a much better night at the office for the Olympics-boud Limerick woman in Bydgoszcz however.

She won her heat in 12.80, and then returned to the track to prevail in the final in 12.74 ahead of Slovakia’s Viktoria Forster and Poland's Marika Majewska.

Thomas Barr further enhanced his chances of qualifying for the Paris Games with a season's best 48.79 in the men’s 400m hurdles. Barr was second behind Brazilian Matheus Lima.

Off the back of winning mixed relay gold at the Europeans, Barr needed a good showing to lift himself inside the world's top 40 and earn a ticket to France.

He did just that, and will hope to consolodate his position at the National Senior Track and Field Championships on 29/30 June.
