Lauren Price compared to boxing legend ahead of professional debut

British boxer Lauren Price has been compared to George Foreman ahead of her professional debut against Valgerður Guðsteinsdóttir.

The 27-year-old announced she would be entering the professional ranks in January, before signing a deal with BOXXER in April.

Price was an Olympic, Commonwealth and world middleweight champion as an amateur.

She is fighting on the undercard of the IBF cruiserweight title eliminator between Richard Riakporhe and Fabio Turchi at Wembley Arena tonight, and has earned praise for her approach to the bout with Guðsteinsdóttir.

Speaking to Sky Sports, former boxer Johnny Nelson called Price a “fighting machine” and compared the Welsh star to Foreman.

“When she got on the scales yesterday, when she walked in the place – she is the ultimate athlete,” he said. “The ultimate professional.

“She looked the part. Her posture, her physique. She’s an athlete, she’s a fighting machine.

“Off-camera, she’s stern face, on the camera, big smile on her face. I actually chuckled to myself – George Foreman used to be like that. Off camera, no nonsense, camera on, he’d smile and think ‘you’re having it’.

“Lauren, I think she is that kind of fighter. Very strong, very determined. It’s going to be a great journey watching the development of her story and see how she goes.

“This young girl was sought after by many, many promoters all over the world, because they know what kind of fighting machine she can be.”

Foreman, who competed between 1967 and 1997, was a two-time world heavyweight champion and an Olympic gold medallist.

Price will likely be happy with this comparison, but is currently completely focused on making her professional debut. She told the BBC that she was feeling “relaxed” about this evening’s fight.
