Latest weather forecast for Manchester after storm Pia

Weather warnings will remain in place for much of the UK over the next couple of days, as Storm Pia continues to batter parts of Britain. It will still be blustery in Greater Manchester but the winds are gradually going to start to ease by later tonight, according to the Met Office.

Gusts of up to 50mph started to hit Greater Manchester this morning, with strong winds of around 40mph lasting throughout much of today. Fallen trees had blocked roads and the M60 was closed due to an overturned lorry.

Some rail services are also disrupted. Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Paul Gundersen, said of the storm: "There’s a chance this low pressure will continue to exert its influence into Friday, so it’s important to stay up to date with the latest Met Office forecast. This system has been named Storm Pia by the Danish Met Service, with the system likely to have more severe impacts in Denmark."
