Latest images as Pizza Express remains taped off after ceiling collapses while diners ate

Images show the scene of devastation at a restaurant in Salford Quays this morning after its ceiling collapsed.

Pizza Express was filled with diners when the ceiling came crashing down on Sunday afternoon (September 8). A huge emergency services response descended on The Quays at around 3.45pm. It was later confirmed a part of the ceiling, thought to have been below part of the Virgin Active gym above, came crashing down as people were inside eating.

Around eight ambulances, along with fire engines and police vehicles swarmed the scene, with the area outside the restaurant, at the Quayside shopping centre, also cordoned off. A rescue mission was launched, but it was later confirmed nobody had been injured in the incident.

She said: "I was next door at Turtle Bay when the incident with the ceiling happened at Pizza Express. We felt the floor shake and I could smell some smoke.

"After about five minutes the fire alarm went off and the staff were shouting to everybody to get out. We were so scared. We just grabbed our children to get out. My sister-in-law was
