Last-gasp try earns Dragons dramatic draw
Fine Inisi rescued the Dragons with a last-gasp try to earn a 15-15 draw against Benetton at Rodney Parade.
The powerful centre burrowed over with the final play of the game to give the hosts a shot at snatching victory, but Angus O’Brien’s difficult conversion from out wide sailed off target.
Instead of a dramatic win, the Dragons had to settle for a share of the spoils after coming within a kick of victory.
The Dragons scored two tries with Inisi and Levi Douglas touching down while Angus O'Brien kicked five points.
A brace from Onisi Ratave and a score from Italy full-back Matt Gallagher was all Benetton could muster.
The Dragons made the worst possible start as Benetton created an overlap with some slick handling before full-back Gallagher sliced through the home side's defence.
Gallagher raced up-field before drawing in the final defender to put Ratave over.
The hosts hit back with a period of pressure and after a few powerful carries Douglas powered over from short-range with O'Brien adding the extras.
Things got even better for the Dragons when Benetton's former All Blacks centre Malakai Fekitoa was sent to the sin bin for a high tackle.
Chris Coleman came close to extending the home side's lead but spilled the ball forward with the try line at his mercy after another period of pressure.
But against the run of play Ratave scored an outstanding individual try as he picked the ball up from a ruck in the Dragons half before running in unopposed from 50 metres out.
Ratave's try knocked the stuffing out of the Dragons and they were soon down to 13 men with Douglas sent to the sin bin for a croc role and Fine Inisi for a deliberate knock on.
Just as the Dragons came out for the second-half they were informed Douglas' yellow card
