Las Vegas Grand Prix set for 2023 addition to F1 calendar
Formula 1 has revealed today that there will be a Grand Prix in the city of Las Vegas, with it being added to the calendar from as early as next season.
The United States has become a key area of growth for F1 in recent years, with it helped along by the popularity of Drive to Survive on Netflix in the country.
Indeed, the success of the US Grand Prix held in Austin, Texas in the last few years has also shown that the country is really starting to warm to F1, after years of the sport perhaps not making the impact that it wanted to over across the Atlantic.
Certainly, F1’s relationship with the US has come a long way since the infamous 2005 US Grand Prix at Indianapolis, where only 6 cars could run because of tyre issues, and you have to credit the work of the likes of Stefano Domenicali in driving things along.
F1 will race in Miami, of course, for the first time in May and so this news concerning Vegas means there will be three Grands Prix in the States from 2023 – more than any other nation – in a clear nod to Formula 1’s commercial strategy.
The track itself looks exciting, too, with artist impressions being released by the sport, courtesy of track designer Herman Tilke:
Interestingly, the Las Vegas Grand Prix will take place on a Saturday evening next November, in a break from the norm of a Sunday race.
Vegas last hosted races in 1981 and 1982 but this track is all-new, and will blast past some of the city’s most iconic landmarks along the way.
The 14-turn track is 3.8 miles long and has expected top speeds of 212mph.
Ready to up the ante in 2023
