Lando Norris has become F1's third-highest paid star after signing a bumper new deal

Lando Norris is having himself a busy week but fortunately, he is going to be able to pay the bills with his new contract with McLaren reportedly set to land him £10.5m a year over the next four years until the end of 2025.

The young Bristolian has been at the Brit awards, appeared on This Morning (no less) and is set to help unveil the McLaren MCL36 ahead of the 2022 season on Friday, but still had time earlier this week to pen a new deal that will make him one of the highest earners in the sport out of the current drivers on the grid – not a bad few days’ work at all!

Indeed, as per The Sun, Norris is now behind only last year’s title rivals Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen in terms of earnings for a season and, that said, the McLaren man will now be wanting to show he can get just as close to them on the track in 2022.

Certainly, it’s a deal that shows McLaren recognises his talent and potential with him now earning more than the likes of Daniel Ricciardo his team-mate, and Ferrari pair Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, as well as fellow Briton George Russell at Mercedes.

It also shows that Norris believes in the project at McLaren, meanwhile, as a 4-year deal is often unheard of in Formula 1, and he could well have had opportunities with the likes of Red Bull and Mercedes.

Instead, though, he is staying with the team that he has been with in F1 since the start, and after a fine 2021 campaign where he was arguably best of the rest behind the two title protagonists, he’ll be eyeing further success in 2022 including a first race victory after narrowly losing out to Lewis Hamilton at the Russian Grand Prix last year thanks to a late rain shower.
