Lance Stroll considers Aston Martin progress after double points finish for team

Lance Stroll says that there are still things for Aston Martin to learn about their car, as the team recorded a double points finish at the Imola Grand Prix on Sunday.

It’s been a difficult start to the campaign for Aston, with Sebastian Vettel contracting covid at the start of the year and missing the first two races, whilst points have been hard to come by.

Indeed, they went into round four of this year’s championship still without a championship point to their name but they now have five on the board, with Vettel coming home in P8 and Stroll completing the top 10 in 10th on Sunday.

A better weekend in the end for Aston, then, and Stroll was pleased with the pace that the car showed in the damp, cool conditions at Imola:

“At the beginning of the race it was tough,” Stroll said to the gathered press, including Give Me Sport, at Imola.

“The tyres were overheating, the track was drying out, but relative to the cars around us we were pretty competitive; putting pressure on Tsunoda, holding off Hamilton, so it felt like we were in a good position considering the fact it was difficult for everyone at the beginning of the race.

“Then on the medium again we were pretty strong – Tsunoda was in another league, he was mega quick, but we were able to pull away from Ocon and those behind us which was a positive for us.”

Stroll was then also asked about the Aston Martin’s performance and whether it’s a sign of things to come, but he said that there are still things to learn about the AMR22 before they make any firm predictions about progress:
