Lanarkshire Karate Academy kids impress in Penrith

Lanarkshire Karate Academy have continued their fine medal-winning form in 2024 after earning various prizes at the Children’s Championships in Penrith recently.

The youngsters claimed close to 30 medals from their trip down south and some of them were taking part in their very first major tournament. LKA, based in Airdrie, won 10 gold, seven silver and 10 bronze awards for their efforts.

The medallists were as follows:

Gold: Anna Smith - Kumite; Ziva Alexander - Kumite; Sebastian Magilton - Kumite; Heather Mackay - Kumite; Sebastian Magilton - Kata; Ziva Alexander - Kata; Kian McGeachy and Keir McGeachy - Pairs Kata; Harrison Carty and Ziva Alexander - Pairs Kata; Maahi Rai, Aurora Harvie, Ziva Alexander, Amelia Harvie - Team; Sebastian Magilton, Kian McGeachy, Keir McGeachy - Team.

Silver: Tyler Gibson - Kumite; Jayden Warwick - Kumite; Dominic Griniuk - Kata; Nell McAuley - Kata; Jack Dominic Griniuk, Jayden Warwick - Team; Caleb Harrison Carty, Dominic Griniuk, Lewis - Team; Ziva Alexander - Kickmaster.

Proud coach, Sensei Chantelle Allan, said: “A Big well done to team LKA who were competing at the Children’s Championships in Penrith. Congratulations to all medal winners and all kids who took part. A few were taking part in an open event for the first time, so it was a brilliant effort. Now, the hard work continues for the rest of the year.”
