Lack of cutting edge costs Threave Rovers against Bellshill Athletic

A lack of cutting edge cost Threave Rovers against Bellshill Athletic on Saturday.

The Castle Douglas side gave as good as they got against the West of Scotland
League third division leaders only to be undone by Kyle Caig’s goal less than 10 minutes from time.

Threave boss Vinnie Parker said: “It was another great game of football.

“In the first half, we rode our luck a bit, they came at us for the first 20 minutes and it took us a wee while to get our house in order.

“In the second half we’ve had 67 per cent possession, 14 shots on goal and not scored.

“They’ve had one or two chances in the second half and they’ve been clinical.

“It was disappointing in front of goal, I’m not saying we’ve been unlucky, we’ve not been clinical or had that killer instinct.

“It’s coming, we’re doing a lot of stuff right, we’re playing some decent football and had a lot of control in the game, it’s just getting that wee killer bit in the final third sorted.”

Parker had said he reckoned the game against the table-toppers would be the stiffest test his side had faced so far and was pleased with how his side fared, if not the final result.

He explained: “There was nothing in it, in the second half we were the better team but they were really good in the first half.

“They’re riding on the crest of a wave and they’ve a tight knit bunch of boys. They celebrated like it was the cup final when they scored and they celebrated in the changing room after the game.

“That’s what you’re up against, teams are desperate to win and they’re desperate to beat us.

“We’re only three points off second place, the league’s that tight. If you look at the past five games we could easily have won them, we’re just not taking our chances.”
