La Liga and Serie A opposition could beckon for LOI sides
St Patrick's Athletic and Sligo Rovers could meet heavyweights in the next stage of European competition after pots were confirmed for the Europa Conference League play-off draws on Tuesday.
They face CSKA Sofia (Bulgaria) and Viking (Norway) respectively from Thursday in the third round after their victories last week.
Another win for Pat’s would see them move on to a tie against one of four possible clubs, including Serie A side Fiorentina.
For Sligo, they could face Spanish giants Villarreal if they progress.
St Pat’s possible opponents are:
John Russell's side have won two rounds in the competition and now travel to Norway this week.
Another win could see a tie with La Liga's Villarreal. The rest of the group is less daunting, particularly compared to the one Pat's face.
Sligo Rovers ’s possible opponents are:
The draws begins from noon on Thursday.
Shamrock Rovers will be in two draws depending on the outcome of their Europa League third round against Skhupi of North Macedonia which starts this week.
The winner of the tie will enter the play-off stage for the Europa League and be guaranteed a minimum of group stage entry to the Conference League.
The loser will be in the play-off of the Conference League.
The pots for both draws are likely to be announced later today.
