Kyren Wilson cruises into Tour Championship final after putting on break-building clinic

Kyren Wilson booked his place in the final of the Duelbits Tour Championship with a brilliant display of scoring in Hull.

Wilson made six centuries, one short of the record for a single match, as he beat Ding Junhui 10-5 at the Bonus Arena to draw high praise from seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry.

Hendry, who holds the record of seven centuries in a best-of-19 frames contest, told ITV4: "It's absolutely stunning snooker. He’s just playing snooker from the Gods.

"It doesn’t get much better than this."

Wilson raced into a 4-0 lead with breaks of 78, 130, 59 and 103, scoring a total of 404 points without reply.

That ensured Ding received a sympathetic cheer from the crowd when he finally potted his first ball of the match in frame five and, although he made 32 before overcutting a red into the corner pocket, a subsequent break of 51 secured the frame.

Wilson responded with a break of 115 and while Ding made 86 to win frame seven, another century from the Englishman gave him a commanding 6-2 lead.

The incredible standard continued in the evening session as Wilson began with breaks of 107 and 118 before Ding replied with 113, and another century was on the cards in frame 12 before Wilson missed a red to the middle as he tried to avoid a foul push shot.

China’s Ding refused to throw in the towel and took advantage of some errors from Wilson to reduce his deficit to four frames, but the 31-year-old Englishman sealed victory in the next with a run of 87.

"It’s obviously a dream come true," Wilson said. "There’s nothing better when you are out there and you feel like you can’t miss and things are going for you.

"I wish we could play the final now."

Wilson will face either Mark Selby or Shaun Murphy in Sunday’s final.
