Kylian Mbappe sets deadline for decision on future as Real Madrid chase transfer
Kylian Mbappe is set to reveal his future after the Ligue 1 season ends on May 21.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward is out of contract in June and is tipped to join Real Madrid on a free transfer. PSG, however, want him to remain in the French capital and have offered him an eye-watering £800,000-a-week deal.
Mbappe was expected to confirm his next move after PSG secured the Ligue 1 title. Mauricio Pochettino's side finished the job with a 1-1 home draw against Lens on Saturday, yet it's believed he will now wait until the end of the season out of respect.
Real and the French World Cup winner have made no secret of their admiration for one another and the Spanish giants remain confident of finally getting their man. Real tried to sign Mbappe last summer but were met with stubborn resistance from PSG.
As reported by Spanish outlet Marca, the La Liga leaders remain "absolutely calm" about the situation. They believe Mbappe will arrive at the Bernabeu this summer and reject PSG's renewal offers - no matter how lucrative they may be.
But, according to ESPN, "positive" talks between Mbappe's representatives and PSG president Nasser al Khelaifi have taken place in Qatar over the weekend. PSG are backed by the Qatari state, who will not want him to leave ahead of this year's World Cup.
"In Madrid, they’ve been convinced for three years that Kylian Mbappe would end up at Real Madrid," PSG sporting director Leonardo told Sky Sports in Italy on Saturday evening. "Maybe they’re a little too sure about that?"
