Kylian Mbappe: Lionel Messi's reaction to PSG teammate's penalty vs Benfica

Kylian Mbappe is once again the talk of the footballing world.

Before Paris Saint-Germain‘s Champions League group stage match against Benfica on Tuesday, various reports emerged detailing that the 23-year-old superstar will look to leave his current club as soon as possible.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Mbappe – who signed a lucrative new contract in the summer – is not happy with his current situation at PSG and things have got very tense behind-the-scenes.

But despite the furore surrounding the France international going into the game, Christophe Galtier opted to start Mbappe against Benfica.

And as luck would have it, the former AS Monaco man got himself on the scoresheet.

Mbappe took responsibility from the penalty spot in the 40th minute of play and duly fired the ball past Odysseas Vlachodimos in the Benfica goal.

The forward celebrated the goal pretty passionately, although his teammate Lionel Messi didn’t look overly happy when the camera panned to him sat in the stands.

Messi – who looked rather dapper in a black turtleneck it must be said – barely cracked a smile after Mbappe’s goal and you have to wonder whether his reaction would have been the same if Neymar had taken the spot kick.

Cheer up, Leo…

The reason Messi was sat in the stands and not on the Parc des Princes pitch wreaking havoc was due to the fact he suffered a minor calf strain in the reverse fixture against Benfica last week.

PSG will be desperate to have the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner back in the starting XI for Sunday’s ‘Le Classique’ match against Marseille, because the team evidently lacks so much creativity without him.
