Kylian Mbappe: Gary Lineker's tweet after PSG decision was spot on

Kylian Mbappe has officially extended his stay at Paris Saint-Germain until 2025.

It was widely thought the France international would join Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer, but PSG pulled out all the stops in order to keep ahold of him.

Mbappe is now the highest-paid footballer in the world and will also have a huge say in matters behind-the-scenes at the Parc Des Princes.

Real Madrid and La Liga are fuming with how the saga has unfolded and as we reported HERE, they are preparing to take legal action against PSG.

La Liga will make a formal complaint to UEFA and they’ve labelled Mbappe’s new deal with the newly-crowned French champions as “scandalous”.

It’s all got a bit messy to be honest.

You can understand why Real Madrid and La Liga are unhappy, as they’ve lost out on a player who would have elevated the status of both the club and the division itself.

However, it’s also a bit rich of them to essentially claim that the deal is ‘ruining the sport’.

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona have thrown fistfuls of cash at superstar names in order to get them to sign down the years.

That was a point Gary Lineker, a former Barcelona player and avid lover of Spanish football, was keen to stress on Twitter after the Mbappe news was made official.

The Match of the Day host wrote on the social media platform: “I love Spanish football, but the bleating about Kylian Mbappe staying at PSG ruining the sport is a bit much. The 2 Spanish giants have always attracted and paid enormous sums for for the game’s superstars. No one else got a look in. Can’t always have things your own way.”
