Kyle Walker explains why he chose Man City stay over Bayern Munich move

Kyle Walker was close to leaving Manchester City this summer, but said the opportunity to defend the treble was too good an opportunity to turn down.

Walker had an offer to join Bayern Munich, before turning down the German giants to sign a new two year contract extension at the Etihad, taking his spell at City up to 2026.

Having previously indicated that the length of contract on offer was the main factor behind choosing to stay at City, Walker now says that he has seen a motivation from all levels of the club to win more trophies and defend the treble that they won in historic circumstances last season.

"I think that in this team there's something special," he said after confirming his extension. "Obviously, just coming back after an amazing high of last season in winning the Treble and finally getting the Champions League, which is the one trophy that we didn't have as a as a group and as collectively, I wanted to go and do it again.

"The lads have got that hunger again to go and achieve something really special again this season, fingers crossed. So I wanted to be a part of it and I didn't want to miss out on that.”

Walker is one of City's four captains, with a vote to take place soon to decide Ilkay Gundogan's successor, and the England international has made no secret of his desire to get the armband permanently. Even if he doesn't get that honour, Walker says the captain group will be needed to keep standards high as City go about winning more trophies this season.
