Kyle Magennis' Hibs campaign over early as Lee Johnson admits midfielder may need surgery again

Kyle Magennis’ Hibs season looks to be over with Lee Johnson admitting the midfielder may go under the knife again.

The former St Mirren man hasn't featured for the Hibees since February and has endured an injury hit time since penning a long-term deal at Easter Road under Jack Ross. Magennis has managed 49 appearances in nearly three years and is set to miss the remainder of the current campaign due to a persistent groin problem that will need an operation.

Hibs are in a battle to finish in the top six ahead of Saturday’s Edinburgh derby at home to Hearts. They’ve yet to beat the Jambos this season, who go into the game with Steven Naismith as interim boss following Robbie Neilson’s sacking last Sunday. Johnson has some bodies missing for the capital clash and admitted that Mikey Devlin, signed on a short-term deal, could make a first appearance with some doubts in defence.

Speaking about which players are likely to be fit, the Hibs boss said: “On an individual basis, probably not Kyle, but certainly Rocky (Bushiri).

"Kyle’s struggling with a groin problem and he is probably going to go under the knife again, potentially in Germany or down at the Fortis clinic in the next couple of weeks.

"Him and Rocky are the main ones. I’d expect Paul Hanlon to be back post-split; Aiden McGeady is out as we know as is Martin.

"We’ve got a couple of knocks this week so we need to see how they are, but we’ll be prepared."
