Kris Doolan appointed Partick Thistle manager as club legend named as permanent Ian McCall replacement

Kris Doolan has been announced as the new Partick Thistle manager on a permanent basis.

Club legend Doolan had been in interim charge since Ian McCall was sacked following their Scottish Cup exit against Rangers. The Jags had started the season in flying form but tailed off with back to back defeats against Hamilton and Cove meaning their cup exit at Ibrox as the final straw for McCall.

Doolan, who was in charge of the U18s side, stepped into the dugout and took seven points from a possible nine against Ayr, Arbroath and Dundee. And now he's been handed the job permanently with a statement reading: "Partick Thistle FC are delighted to announce that Kris Doolan has been appointed as first team manager. Doolan has been in interim charge of first team matters for almost three weeks now, overseeing away victories over Ayr United and Dundee as well as a draw at Arbroath.

"Kris had been in charge of the club’s under 18s side since January before being asked to lead the senior team but his connection with Partick Thistle long predates any sort of coaching role."

It continued: "Kris takes the managerial reigns on a full-time basis starting tomorrow against Raith Rovers – his first game in the dugout at Firhill. Academy director Paul McDonald will continue supporting Kris in his role as interim assistant manager."
