Kriel available for Romania clash, says assistant coach Jones ... but Canan fit and able, too

Springbok assistant coach Felix Jones said midfielder Jesse Kriel has yet to be sanctioned and therefore remains available for selection ahead of Sunday's Rugby World Cup game against Romania in Bordeaux.

Kriel was involved in a head collision incident with Scotland No 8 Jack Dempsey in Sunday's 18-3 win in their opening game in Marseille, but the 36 hours available to the citing commissioner to review the incident after the game has elapsed.

However, it wouldn't be a surprise if Kriel, who had a more-than-decent outing against Scotland despite one glaring defensive error, is given a pass for this Sunday's game after Canan Moodie was declared fit by SA Rugby's director of rugby, Rassie Erasmus, on Monday.

A hamstring niggle during the Springbok training camp in Corsica rendered Moodie unavailable for selection for their 18-3 win against Scotland in Marseille over the weekend.

In one of last week's training sessions, Moodie's left thigh was strapped up, but he wasn't moving with any apparent difficulty.

On what was a sweltering Tuesday afternoon at the uncovered but spectacular Toulon Rugby Club campus, where the Springboks began their match-week ahead of the Romania game, Jones said the plethora of backline options has created a selection headache.

"Jesse is available to be selected. There's been no further update on it," Jones said.

"It's a great position to be in, in terms of having players that are vying for positions competing with each other.
