Korda prevails in Drive On Championship play-off, maguire shoots final round 69

Nelly Korda made a downhill par putt on the second play-off hole to defeat Lydia Ko and win the LPGA Drive On Championship in Florida.

Leona Maguire closed out her weekend with a 69 to finish 31st position overall on level par, 11 shots adrift of Ko and Korda. That was four shots clear of compatriot Stephanie Meadow who carded her highest score of the week (73) to finish on four-over par.

FINAL LEADERBOARD

Korda, a Bradenton native, nabbed her ninth career LPGA victory despite squandering a four-shot lead to start the day.

After both Korda and Ko returned to the par-4 18th hole for the play-off, and made par the first time through, Korda's approach shot rolled off the back of the green toward the hospitality tent. Ko landed her shot on the green, but after Korda chipped on, Ko's long birdie putt stopped several feet short.

Ko then watched her uphill par putt lip out. Korda calmly delivered her6-footer to the centre of the cup before celebrating with the home crowd.

From an Irish perspective, it will be Maguire who will take more pleasure out of the final round.

After a steady start, the Cavan native found trouble at the fourth, but recovered well to pick up birdies at 6th, 9th and 10th.

She dropped a shot at the par-3 15th but a fourth birdie at 17 allowed her to close for a 69.

Meadow began with a bogey at the first and followed it up with another, but by the time she picked up her second birdie at 13th she had brought her round back to level par.

However a double-bogey at the par-four 14th and another dropped shot at last saw her finish with a 73 and four-over par overall.
