Komphela rejoins Sundowns as senior coach in the wake of Mokwena's dramatic exit
Mamelodi Sundowns announced on Saturday that Steve Komphela is the new senior coach, where he will assist Manqoba Mngqithi and the technical team.
Komphela, who previously worked with Sundowns, expressed his excitement about returning.
"I am very excited to be back at Mamelodi Sundowns where I was always inspired and treated with respect and love," said Komphela.
"I look forward to contributing to the Club achieving its goals in South Africa and on the continent."
The announcement comes as Sundowns prepare for the new season, with the team set to depart for Austria in a few days for pre-season training.
Meanwhile, Komphela's timely return occurs days after the club parted ways with head coach Rhulani Mokwena, a year after he penned a four year deal.
Komphela left Chloorkop after three years at the helm last year to take on the head coach role at Moroka Swallows, who have since now sold their PSL status to Marumo Gallants.
Sundowns are still searching for a new head coach as Mngqithi leads the senior team during the pre-season.
