Kolisi's 2019 Springboks serving as inspiration ahead of SA charge at Sevens World Cup

In early November it will hit the three year mark since captain Siya Kolisi and the Springboks trounced England in the final of the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

The famous victory continues to inspire a nation, including Blitzboks skipper Siviwe Soyizwapi, who will lead his side this weekend at the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens, staged in Cape Town.

Just like the Springboks in 2019, who boasted a talented squad, the Blitzboks are not favourites despite having the tournament in their own backyard and having several star players in their arsenal such as Cecil Afrika, Selvyn Davids, including Soyizwapi.

But speaking to the media on top of Cape Town’s iconic Signal Hill on Wednesday, the 27-year-old Soyizwapi is hoping that the Blitzboks can replicate what Kolisi and the Boks did in Yokohama, against the odds.

- There are 40 participating teams.

- Tickets are still available for all three days. Prices start at R150 (Friday), R750 (Saturday) and R475 (Sunday) and are available exclusively from Ticketmaster.

- This will be the first senior Rugby World Cup hosted in South Africa since 1995.

- England won the inaugural Sevens World Cup tournament at Murrayfield in 1993.

- There have been seven previous editions of Rugby World Cup Sevens. - The women’s competition has been running since 2009. Australia won the first women's event in Dubai.

- In the last two Rugby World Cup Sevens, New Zealand have doubled up in both competitions.

- In the men’s competition, New Zealand have the most titles with three, Fiji are next with two and England and 2009 surprise package, Wales, have one apiece.
