Kobbie Mainoo drops Manchester United injury hint as player breaks silence on transfer interest

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines on Thursday, September 7.

Kobbie Mainoo has teased he could be nearing a comeback from injury for Manchester United.

The youngster picked up an ankle injury during United's pre-season tour of the United States. Mainoo impressed in all of the senior team's first three pre-season outings, earning himself a place in midfield against Real Madrid at the NRG Stadium in Texas.

However, he would feature for little more than five minutes against the La Liga giants, being replaced by Christian Eriksen after picking up an injury. United were already 1-0 down by the time he departed following Jude Bellingham's early goal.

The 18-year-old took to Instagram to post an update after the game, writing: "I’ll be back stronger and in no time. Thanks for your messages of support."

Jean-Clair Todibo insists he was happy to stay put at OGC Nice this summer despite reported interest from Manchester United.

Speculation over the 23-year-old defender and his future with the French Ligue 1 outfit was at fever pitch during the recent transfer window. Todibo was mooted as a would-be replacement for Harry Maguire at Old Trafford, in the eventuality the England man sealed a proposed move to West Ham.

United accepted an offer worth £30million for the defender. Despite that, Maguire opted to stay put, which meant United had to shelve plans to sign another centre-back.

Manchester Evening News understands Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba was among the club's main candidates, while reports from renowned French publication L'Equipe namedropped Todibo as a potential alternative target for the Premier League giants.
