Knockout of the Year? Ringside photographer saves brutally KO'd boxer from severe fall
It is said that not all heroes wear capes and, in this case, they wear cameras around their necks at ringside!
The Golden Boy boxing card in Ontario, California at the Toyota Center was the scene of the incident on Saturday night, a scene which saw one of the most astonishing knockouts of 2022.
John “Scrappy” Ramirez (10-0, 8 KOs) defeated Jan “Nito” Salvatierra (8-2, 4 KOs) inside the first round of this super flyweight bout. That’s not exactly news, but the way in which it occurred is.
The first half of the opening round saw the two men not do much while sizing each other up, before Ramirez would make his move following a break from the clinch.
A right hand that broke the defence saw Salvatierra’s legs become shaky, while the straight right that followed sent him hurtling through the ropes towards the hard concrete floor.
A ringside photographer acted ever so quickly and ensured the tumble that Salvatierra took to the floor wasn’t an incredibly bad one, cradling him by his neck.
