'Knocking on door' - Barnsley boss Michael Duff handed selection message ahead of Bolton Wanderers

Barnsley assistant Martin Paterson believes boss Michael Duff will have some players knocking on his door to be involved against Bolton Wanderers this weekend after their win over Doncaster Rovers.

The Tykes made the short trip to the Keepmoat Stadium to take on League Two Donny last night in the group stage of the Papa Johns Trophy. Barnsley won 4-2 and top the Northern Group E.

Fabio Jalo, aged just 16, bagged a brace for the Tykes as they secured qualification for the next round. Josh Martin also scored twice, while George Miller pulled back two goals for the hosts.

Barnsley are next in action in League One when they travel to the Unviersity of Bolton Stadium to take on the Whites. The two sides are level on points and separated by goal difference.

Tykes assistant Paterson believes the game gave a chance for members of the Barnsley squad to give boss Duff some decisions this weekend, as they responded to the weekend loss to Exeter City.

He told the Barnsley Chronicle : “We’re delighted. We started the game so well. Our press was really effective. Coming to Doncaster, who are going well in League Two, we were full of respect and the players were excellent. We hurt them. I say this humbly but the first half went all our way.

“Tonight is an example of how we respect the competition. We can field young players and give senior players minutes to challenge the starting 11.

"The result at the weekend wasn’t what we wanted so when we go to Bolton there will be a few people knocking on Michael’s door which is great.”
