Knockhill BSB: O’Halloran ‘over the moon, bike is unbelievable’

Jason O’Halloran took his Donington Park form to Knockhill at the weekend and for the second Bennetts British Superbike Championship round in a row, the McAMS Yamaha rider was the man of the meeting as he came away with two wins and a second.

Scoring the heaviest both in terms of points and podium credits, O’Halloran is looking ominous in second overall in the championship table and after taking second to Brad Ray in Saturday’s race, he responded with both wins on Sunday, making his move at the right moment to claim a career total of 19 BSB victories – with the two most recent achieved at a track he’s not the biggest fan of.

“To be honest I am over the moon and chuffed to bits as Knockhill’s not my favourite circuit but the bike’s working well and the team are working well,” O’Halloran said after the dust settled on race three.

“Brad was a little bit faster than us in race one but I was happy with the pace we had. I had a bit of a fight with Rory [Skinner] at the start and lost a bit of time but when I managed to get back by, I managed to build a gap and rode my own race.”

O’Halloran and the team made some changes in Sunday morning warm-up but ultimately reverted back to a similar set-up to what he’d run on Saturday and in both races he bided his time before moving to the front in the closing stages.

“We tried something in morning warm-up but went back to Saturday’s set-up for the first race and whilst I normally don’t like it here I really enjoyed that one and felt really strong,” he admitted. “The bike was good to the end whilst my strongest part was going into the hairpin which helped with overtaking.
