Klopp could unearth the "new Zlatan" as Liverpool make bid to sign £58.7m star - opinion

Jurgen Klopp is now believed to be preparing for life without a number of his key attacking players at Liverpool, with Divock Origi’s contract set to expire this summer and Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all set to see their deals end at the climax of next season.

It’s likely that the club will go in for a striker to replace the Belgian, but instead of signing a player to contribute to the team purely as a back-up, the club are being linked constantly with first-team ready players who can come in and make an immediate impact – like Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak.

Noticias de Gipuzkoa, a Spanish news outlet, have claimed that Liverpool’s scouts have told owners FSG to buy the Swedish striker, who has a £75m release clause, after scouting him extensively.

The report also claims “Real Sociedad would have promised to listen to offers in the hypothetical case that important proposals arrived from big clubs in Europe” – and Liverpool are among the clubs that the Spanish team will listen to – and according to Mundo Deportivo, the Reds have submitted an offer worth £58.7m.

Isak, who has been dubbed the “new Zlatan Ibrahimovic” by Chinedu Obasi, has scored 41 goals in 121 appearances for the Spanish club since joining from Borussia Dortmund for a bargain £13.5m, and at 22-years-old, he still has plenty of room to grow and develop into one of Europe’s top strikers.

Standing at 6 foot 4, he would be a huge aerial threat for Liverpool, who have excellent crossers of the ball in full-backs Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold – who complete a combined four crosses per game on average.
