Liverpool are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements this summer following an injury crisis at the club, and now a new potential transfer target has been identified with just eight days left for the club to seal a deal.

According to TNT Argentina (via TNT Sports), Liverpool are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes.

As per the report, Jurgen Klopp is keen to add a new midfielder before the transfer window closes but the Merseysiders are set to compete with Juventus for the signature of the player.

Liverpool remain winless in the Premier League at present with two draws and a disappointing defeat at Old Trafford on Monday evening, and are currently one of just five teams in the top flight that have failed to pick up their first three-pointer of the season.

There are many areas of complaint on the current form of the team but none more so than the glaring injury situation in the centre of the pitch with Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Thiago Alcantara all currently recovering from various fitness issues.

As a result, the signing of Paredes couldn’t come at a better time for the Reds as he could not only be the perfect Thiago replacement whilst the Spaniard recovers from an ongoing hamstring issue, but also a player that could push the current midfielders for their positions beyond Thiago’s recovery.

The 28-year-old is predominantly a deep defensive midfielder but has displayed many attacking-minded attributes over his time with the Ligue One Champions and as a result could comfortably cover the position needed during the Liverpool midfielder’s absence.
