Kirkcudbright Snooker Club retain Selkirk Shield

Kirkcudbright and Gatehouse Snooker Clubs renewed their annual rivalry playing for the Selkirk Shield on Sunday.

Each year the two clubs select eight players, four of whom play their matches at one of the two venues. This year those players ranked one to four played their matches at Gatehouse whilst those players ranked five to eight played their matches at Kirkcudbright.

Each team player played two singles matches and one doubles match meaning that there were 20 matches played throughout the day.

At the end of what was a most enjoyable competition, the scores showed that both teams recorded a total of 10 points, meaning that overall, the competition was a draw.

However, as the Selkirk Shield was won by Kirkcudbright Snooker Club last year, it is to be retained by Kirkcudbright for another 12 months.

As always, the competition was keenly contested and played in a very friendly manner and at the end of the competition, the players and organisers met for refreshments kindly provided at the Selkirk Arms.
