King Charles to appear at church on Easter Sunday - without William and Kate

The King is expected to make his most significant public appearance since being diagnosed with cancer today. King Charles will lead the royal family as it attends the annual Easter Mattins Service at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle.

He will be joined by Queen Camilla and other members of the family. However, the Prince and Princess of Wales will not be attending.

It follows Princess Catherine's own cancer diagnosis, which she revealed in a public video earlier this month. Kate, William and their children - Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis - will all miss the Easter Sunday service.

As Buckingham Palace announced his upcoming attendance, Charles was pictured carrying out official duties for the first time since the Princess of Wales shared her cancer news with the nation. He met community and faith leaders from across the UK in London on Tuesday.

The monarch, with a folded cardboard place name in front of him labelled 'HM The King', was shown in conversation around a large antique table in the Palace's Billiard Room. He was welcoming alumni from the Windsor Leadership Trust, which encourages multi-faith dialogue, harmony and understanding at a time of heightened international tensions.

Today's service will be a smaller version of the annual gathering, with less members of the royal family as the King has paused public-facing duties while he continues treatment for cancer himself.
