Killer who brutally stabbed man in the leg four times and left him to bleed to death sentenced to life in prison

A killer who brutally stabbed a man in the leg four times while enforcing a drug debt and left him to bleed to death is due to be sentenced today. he victim was later found dead by his flatmates in his Pontypridd bedroom as the murderer fled to a hospital across the border.

Kieran Carter, 23, marched to the home of father-of-four Daniel Rae, 30, in Treforest, Pontypridd, on December 17, and barged into his bedroom before unleashing a frenzied attack with a knife. Mr Rae suffered four wounds to his leg which caused his death, as well as three wounds to his forearm.

A trial at Cardiff Crown Court heard Carter had sent an exchange of angry messages to Mr Rae shortly before his death, due to the victim owing him money for drugs. The killer messaged Mr Rae: "Bro listen I’m coming now, if you ain’t got the bread by I get there, it’s long.”

Describing the attack to the jury, prosecutor Christopher Rees said: “Kieran Carter went inside the bedroom and he stabbed Daniel Rae repeatedly in the left leg and slashed his right forearm in a vicious and frenzied attack, leaving Daniel Rae to bleed to death in his bedroom....”

Mr Rae was discovered by his flatmates sitting upright next to a blood-soaked mattress. Despite the efforts of the emergency services to save him, he was declared dead at the scene. Witnesses described hearing noises including glass smashing, things being broken and someone hyperventilating before Carter left the house.
