Kildare commit to independent review after camogie row

Kildare have confirmed that the county will not enter a team into this year's All-Ireland Camogie intermediate championship, but they committed to an independent review into "all matters pertaining to the preparation and participation" of the county's camogie teams.

Kildare camogie hit the headlines last week when players hit out at what they said was a "disrespectful" county board decision to withdraw them from the All-Ireland intermediate championship against their wishes.

The team said they were informed of the county board's decision through a WhatsApp message and told there would be no further discussion.

The players then released a statement in which they criticised the decision and lack of discussion around it, saying it "brings to a head a pattern of disrespect shown to us players over the last number of seasons."

Since then Kildare Camogie Executive representatives, members of the Kildare panel, The Camogie Association and GPA have meet and while the decision to pull out of the intermediate championship remains, there now at least appears to be a path forward.

A statement from the Camogie Association read: "It was agreed that Kildare will not participate in the 2023 Intermediate All-Ireland Camogie Championship. This very difficult decision was reached by the Kildare Executive and Players after extensive discussion.

"All parties committed to undertake an independent review of all matters pertaining to the preparation and participation of inter county camogie teams representing Kildare.

"This independent review will be overseen by Ard Chomhairle of the Camogie Association, and will involve the County Board, clubs, players and other relevant parties. The goal is to improve structures and supports, to enable Kildare
