Kieran Tierney primed for major Arsenal title race role as injury blow set to force Mikel Arteta's hand

Kieran Tierney is set to get a chance to prove he can be the number one left-back at Arsenal after an injury blow in North London.

Centre-back William Saliba and fellow left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko have been ruled out for the remainder of the season according to The Athletic in a big blow to their title race hopes. Mikel Arteta's side did hold the lead in the Premier League run-in but Manchester City have nudged ahead of them in recent matches after hitting a hot streak of form.

Tierney - who moved to London in 2019 from Celtic - has had a frustrating season since the Ukrainian arrived from the Etihad, reduced to playing second fiddle in the league, sparking rumours that clubs like Newcastle United could be on his case this summer. But with four huge matches that could end in silverware on the horizon, Tierney looks likely to be handed the mantle of responsibility to hold down Arsenal's left-side of defence.

Up next is a home match with Brighton before travelling to Nottingham Forest. They end the campaign at home to Wolves, currently a point behind the Citizens who have a game in hand.
