Kieran McKenna reveals significant Ipswich Town injury blow

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has confirmed that defender George Edmundson will be out indefinitely with injury.

The 24-year-old exited the field early on Tuesday night against Lincoln City after sustaining an ankle injury.

Speaking ahead of the Tractor Boys clash with Portsmouth this weekend, McKenna confirmed the defender will be out ‘for some time’.

“There’s mixed news throughout the squad really,” said McKenna via the Ipswich Town club site.

“George Edmundson picked up an ankle injury which will unfortunately leave him out for quite some time.”

“We were worried it’d require surgery but luckily it’s not looking like that is the case.”

“He’s done some quite heavy ligament damage so he’ll be out for the foreseeable.”

Edmundson’s injury comes as a huge blow for the Tractor Boys who are chasing down a play-off place in League One.

Edmundson has been the very definition of a mainstay in the heart of the their defence this season having started and completed 90 minutes in every game he has played since September.

That was, of course, until Tuesday night when he was forced to leave the field after 61 minutes of play.

In other team news, though, there were more positive updates for Ipswich, with Kieran McKenna suggesting two players were in contention to feature against Pompey tomorrow afternoon.

“Sam Morsy was able to complete most of the training session today.” McKenna continued.

“Wes Burns completed some of the session but not all of it. We’ll make a decision on that one tomorrow.”

Losing such a key player at this time of the season is a massive blow for Ipswich as they chase down a play-off place.

Whilst there is some good news in that the injury does not require surgery, there is no timeline on Edmundson’s return,
