Kieran McKenna reveals Ipswich Town transfer plans ahead of summer window

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has revealed that he will be looking to strengthen his squad in the summer transfer window.

After being handed over the reins at Portman Road in December, the 35-year-old opted to engage in some transfer business earlier this year.

As well as allowing the likes of Jon Nolan, Toto Nsiala and Scott Fraser to leave the club on a permanent basis, McKenna also managed to draft in some fresh faces in January.

Dominic Thompson and Tyreeq Bakinson sealed temporary moves to Ipswich and have both gone on to feature regularly in the third-tier for the club.

Due to an upturn in form, Ipswich still have an outside chance of reaching the play-offs later this year as they are only five points adrift of Sheffield Wednesday who occupy sixth place in the League One standings.

The Blues will be looking to close this particular gap on Saturday by securing all three points in their showdown with Cambridge United.

Ahead of this fixture, McKenna has outlined his plans for the upcoming transfer window.

Speaking in last night’s Fans Forum (as cited by TWTD), the Ipswich boss said: “For sure we have to improve the squad.

“We feel like we’re in a pretty good place in terms of the squad.

“Part of my initial impression when I arrived in December was that the squad would need to be trimmed a little bit and possibly lose a little bit of depth but add a little bit more quality and specific qualities where we needed it.

“That was the main focus in January, but now going into the summer window, it’s about improving the quality we have in the squad and taking it to another level.”
