Kieran McKenna makes views known on Manchester United job as Erik ten Hag awaits decision

Kieran McKenna is open to taking over as Manchester United manager should Erik ten Hag leave the club after the FA Cup final.

Former United coach and boyhood fan McKenna could leave Ipswich Town after guiding them to Premier League promotion amid interest from United, Chelsea and Brighton.

Brighton earmarked McKenna as their preferred choice to replace Roberto de Zerbi but it is understood they could be trumped by Chelsea or United. Sources say Chelsea have already held discussions with McKenna's representatives but he is reluctant to rush into a decision amid the possibility of a managerial change at United, who are believed to be his ideal destination.

Chelsea sacked Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday evening and the Argentine has coveted the United role for the best part of five years. He is the current favourite with bookmakers.

Thomas Tuchel, who recently left Bayern Munich, would also relish a return to England at United, where he managed Bayern to victory in the Champions League group stage in December.

McKenna, 38, is under contract at Ipswich until 2025 and United have not made a definitive decision on Ten Hag's future as they remain focused on the FA Cup final against Manchester City on Saturday.

Ten Hag is contracted to United until next year and the club has the option of an additional year. United finished eighth in the Premier League table - outside of the European qualifying places - but could qualify for the Europa League if they win the FA Cup.
