Khune urges battling Chiefs to 'focus on the future'

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has called on his teammates to focus on the future as they look ahead to a mouth-watering clash against the runaway leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday evening. 

Following last Friday's 4-0 humiliation against AmaZulu, Chiefs sit in fourth place on the standings. This has resulted in increased pressure on AmaKhosi, but the veteran goalkeeper has called upon his teammates to put the past behind them and to look ahead.  

"I think, as players, it was a difficult pill to swallow after our result against AmaZulu," Khune told reporters. 

"Going into this week, we told ourselves that as hard as it is, we just have to put it behind us and start focusing on our next important home match against Mamelodi Sundowns. 

"We have to go out there and get the results that we want which is a win at home, so it's very important that we forget about the past and we focus on the future." 

AmaKhosi head into the clash in underwhelming form as they have suffered consecutive defeats to Sekhukhune United and AmaZulu. 

The Glamour Boys have also been guilty of leaking goals from their own making, but the 35-year-old believes they're not in difficult times and has called on the AmaKhosi faithful to get behind them.  

"I wouldn't say it's difficult times, we ended the year (2022) on the right note [when] we won our game against Golden Arrows. 

"After that game, we relaxed a little because we thought everything is going well and going into our first league game of the new year, we were highly motivated and confident that Sekhukhune is right at the bottom of the log and we going to have it easy on the night.
