Khosi for life? Not Shakoane ... 'Goldfingers' in Sundown yellow 'took football to the people'

Fallen Mamelodi Sundowns club official legend Alex Shakoane lived and breathed the Pretoria club, but his initial allegiance was to Kaizer Chiefs.

This was revealed by his close friend and Chiefs legend, Jan 'Malombo' Lechaba, at Shakoane's memorial service in Mamelodi on Thursday.

Lechaba was one of the first speakers and significantly lifted the mood from sombre to upbeat and the feeling persisted until the end of the service. That would have pleased Shakoane.

'Goldfingers', as Shakoane was known because of his penchant of adorning his fingers with jewellery - including a Minnesota Kicks ring he got from another legendary Chiefs footballer in Patrick 'Ace' Ntsolengoe - passed away on Sunday after a short illness.

Lechaba spoke glowingly of his friend as a prankster and a born winner who kept company with other fellow winners.

"One thing everyone must know is that Alex Shakoane was a Kaizer Chiefs fan," Lechaba said as he shocked the audience into laughter.

"Let me be honest about that and everyone must know. I guess he was always the person who wanted to associate himself with winners," he quipped.

"It was me, him and the late Patrick 'Ace' Ntsolengoe, and all of us were Kaizer Chiefs.

@AndileNcube Good eveningAndile. Got so emotional when listening to Louis Tshakoane. Those two gentlemen made me love football. I used to switch from Thobela FM to Lisedi, Motsweding FM in the morning just to listen to both of them wen KC vs Downs game. pic.twitter.com/HPD9eu4dNw

"I remember when I joined Sundowns, Alex told me to wear a suit to work every day," he recalled.

"However, you couldn't wear the same suit twice in a week, so I rocked up wearing a tracksuit and him and Trott Moloto didn't allow me to drink coffee that day."
