Kevin van Veen: I'll hit 30 goals target and Motherwell can finish seventh

Motherwell hero Kevin van Veen backs himself to hit his 30-goal target this season and hopes that helps his side to six more points to wrap up seventh place in the Premiership.

The Dutch striker hit his 20th goal in the 3-1 win over Hibs at Easter Road on April 1 and reckons most people thought he was off his head when he set the bold target of 10 more.

But van Veen is on 27 goals and Motherwell are seventh, as they head into battle at Livingston this evening and at home to Dundee United on Sunday.

Van Veen says he and his side are full of confidence and sees no reason why they can’t achieve their goals.

He said: “At Hibs I was on 19 or 20 and I said to the media that I’m going to sore another 10 more, and everybody thought ‘this guys is off his head’.

“Now, seven goals further, I’m three away from that and we’ve got two games to go.

“I’m still stuck to my word. I’ve not reached it yet, but I do believe in myself and the team to get six points in the next two games, against Livingston and Dundee United.

“We have to focus first on Livingston, but the way we are feeling, the 30 is inside my reach and the six points are within our reach.

“I’m very confident that I can hit my personal levels of what I said I was going to do, and finish as high as possible, which is the top of this table from the bottom six.

“It’s all there for us to take, and I’m very confident.”

With 27 goals to his name, van Veen has needed to be creative with celebrations, but says they’re not planned beforehand.

He revealed: “When I score I just do something weird or impulsive – it’s not like before the game I’m thinking I’ve got a book with all my celebrations or something!

“I just do something weird, I'm just a weird guy, sometimes.

“I ‘fell asleep’
