Kevin De Bruyne snub for Erling Haaland sums up Man City after comeback vs Brentford

Manchester City are used to breaking records under Pep Guardiola but this wasn't in their script.

Rico Lewis just about managed to stop Bryan Mbeumo adding a second and Ederson made two more crucial interventions in an opening 20 minutes when it would not have flattered Brentford to be two or three goals up. Instead, thanks to Hurricane Haaland, it was 1-1.

Haaland looked emotional before the game started in the week where he mourned the death of a close family friend, and celebrations were muted after he steered home the equaliser. City hadn't been particularly good but a loose touch from Kevin De Bruyne had fallen the way of the No.9 in the box and he made no mistake.

Ederson spotted that Haaland had been left man-marked in the Brentford half and punted it upfield for the striker to run onto; getting ahead of Ethan Pinnock, he allowed the defender to bounce into him and then cruised up the pitch and dinked past Mark Flekken for another world-class finish.

That is 99 goals in 103 games for City - in a week where everybody wants to talk about the Premier League charges again, it surely won't be long before Haaland hits 115. More so
