Kevin De Bruyne dispels Man City title myth following draw with Liverpool

Kevin De Bruyne has explained how he never believed the hype that Manchester City’s showdown with Liverpool on Sunday was a title decider.

The game had been understandably promoted as a decisive encounter in the race for the Premier League crown. In the end, it was as you were at the top of the table with a 2-2 draw meaning City still head the league by a single point.

De Bruyne scored the opener after five minutes, his deflected effort shuddering off the post and into the net for his 14th strike of the season. But speaking after the game, the Belgian magician admitted that he had not gone into the match thinking that a win would sway which way the title would go.

He said: "Whoever won this game, I never thought it would be who wins the game wins the title. I think the schedule is so hard for both of them and they (the games) come thick and fast.

“The quality of the Premier League is so high. It's going to be a massive challenge." De Bruyne went on to note the hectic schedule that City are currently in the middle of.

The club travels to Spain for their Champions League second leg with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday 1-0 up from the first leg thanks to a De Bruyne goal. They than face another encounter with Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Saturday.

“It would have been nice to think about the end of the season but you don't get the time,” he added. “Maybe that's a good thing. We'll play, play, play and then see what happens."
