Kevin De Bruyne accused of ‘going too far’ as Man City man’s team-mates refuse to respond

Kevin De Bruyne has been accused of “going too far” in criticising his Belgium team-mates following a 2-0 defeat to France - but his team-mates refused to comment on his controversial interview.

Belgium lost to their rivals in Lyon on Monday after another dismal performance. Despite having greater possession, the Red Devils couldn't capitalise as Randal Kolo Muani struck a loose ball home in the first half, before Ousmane Dembele rifled in another after the break for Les Bleus.

Manchester City talisman De Bruyne was left furious and did not hold back in his scathing review after the game, declaring that the team is "no longer good enough" while accusing some players of "not performing their tasks."

As reported by French publication Le Figaro, the Belgium captain said: "What do we need to improve? I really can't say that in front of the media. I used to say what I thought out loud when I was 18 at Genk, but I don't do that anymore at 33. I spoke my mind in the dressing room at half time.

"When you're not good enough for top-level play, you have to give it your all, and I didn't see that tonight. I can accept that we're no longer as good as we were in 2018. I'm the first to admit it but I can't tolerate the way we played today."

He added: "We had six players at the back. Even in the second half, there was no transition. It's not just a question of transition. It's about the way we played. Some players didn't do their job. That's where the problem lies. Full stop."
