Kevin Clancy OUT of refereeing frontline as Rangers row ref handed weekend role after derby controversy

The Scottish Football Association have taken Kevin Clancy off the frontline this weekend.

The referee and his family have been subject to a flood of sickening hate mail on the back of Celtic’s 3-2 win over Rangers, after he disallowed an Alfredo Morelos goal. Clancy’s personal details were leaked online and the SFA confirmed on Monday that they were liaising with Police Scotland over the of the correspondence which was abusive and "criminal" in some cases.

The Hampden hierarchy have decided to take Clancy out of the immediate firing line. He won’t be in the middle for a top-level fixture but instead he will be in charge of the VAR for Livingston v St Johnstone. He will provide video back-up and support for match official David Munro at Livi. It has been a difficult time for Clancy and his family who have been given extra support by the SFA's welfare staff in recent days. Scotland's top senior referees have also joined SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell in coming out in support of Clancy. Referee Steven McLean takes charge of Rangers v St Mirren, while David Dickinson is the man at Kilmarnock v Celtic. John Beaton has been given the nod for the Edinburgh derby.
