Kerry duo Stephen O'Brien and Adrian Spillane announce retirements

All-Ireland winners Stephen O'Brien and Adrian Spillane have announced their retirements from inter-county football with Kerry.

Half-forward O'Brien (33) made his senior debut in 2014 and won Sam Maguire that year, doubling his tally in 2023.

The Kenmare Shamrocks man also won eight Munster championships and four Allianz Football League titles.

He made over 100 appearances for the Kingdom and was nominated for an All-Star in 2019 and 2022.

"Stephen is a gentleman on and off the field, and his contribution to Kerry football, both in his achievements and his character, cannot be overstated," a statement from Kerry GAA said.

"His departure leaves a lasting legacy that will be remembered by all who followed his remarkable journey."

Forward Spillane (30), son of Tom and nephew of Mick and Pat, made his debut in 2019, playing in the drawn All-Ireland final and replay defeat to Dublin.

The Templenoe man made 56 appearances for Kerry, coming off the bench to replace O'Brien in the final victory over Galway in 2022.

"Adrian Spillane's contribution to Kerry GAA cannot be measured in statistics alone," said Kerry GAA. "He was a true warrior for the jersey, always giving everything for his teammates and the supporters.

"A gentleman on and off the field, Adrian leaves behind a legacy of hard work, humility, and pride in representing his county.

"He will be spoken about with admiration by all those who had the privilege of watching him play."
