Kent sign fast bowler Conor McKerr on loan from Surrey for final two County Championship Division 1 matches

Kent have signed a fast bowler on loan from Surrey for their County Championship run-in.

Conor McKerr arrives at The Spitfire Ground, Canterbury, ahead of their trip to Hampshire next week and their final game of the season at home to Somerset, with Kent looking to avoid relegation from County Championship Division 1.

The 24-year-old has 41 wickets from 16 County Championship matches in his career, with best innings figures of 5-54 when playing on loan at Derbyshire in 2017 - becoming the youngest Derbyshire player to take 10 wickets during a loss to Northamptonshire.

Johannesburg-born McKerr, a member of the South Africa under-19 squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh but who holds a British passport, spent last year on loan back at Derbyshire for their T20 Blast campaign.

McKerr played against Kent for Surrey in June, as he took first-innings figures of 2-60 in the draw.

His arrival comes with departing Kent seam bowler Matt Milnes (back) and captain Sam Billings (groin) sustaining injuries in last week’s heavy defeat at home to Essex while Jordan Cox is away with England.

But before attentions switch back to red-ball cricket, the Spitfires will face Lancashire at Trent Bridge this Saturday in the Royal London One-Day Cup final.
